When the upper jaw is too narrow, it can cause an improper bite. The only way to correct this is to use a palatal expander, which widens the upper arch. This is done by placing pressure on the upper molars. Once the desired width is achieved, the appliance will be kept in place for several months to ensure the expansion lasts.
